about

Bois Sauvage wonders about how we compartmentalize as individuals and as societies. We occupy the same physical space, but our experiences vary greatly in the emotional, spiritual and psychological plane of existence. These lyrics were inspired by many songs, novels, movies, short-stories and essays. The title “Bois Sauvage” is an homage to the work of Jesmyn Ward. She writes about the experience of poor African Americans in the rural Gulf Coast of Mississippi. For many Americans, her work is a window into a world they do not know or see outside of her eloquent and exquisite prose. When one group of people cannot wrestle with the experience of another person unless it is laid out in fiction—what does that say about us? The lyrical and musical composition represent the dream like state many of us live in unaware of the beauty and danger all around us and the role we play in how it all unfolds.

lyrics

You’re just a circle
I’m Just a square
You’re just a circle
Here comes the sphere

Broken memories of the places we all know
Your tongue it prohibits, calling out

A sorrow in the throat conspires against us
Every word just taunting our love

Why don’t you come at me

I thought we could drown all the voices
In the face of the beginning end
For you and me
Right now

Asphyxiated by convictions in truths you malign
To give
To kill
To give and to kill is all we are
You use your tongue just like axes to cut down our dreams

A sorrow in the throat conspires against us
Every word just taunting our love

Why don’t you come at me

I thought we could drown all the voices
In the face of the beginning end
For you and me
Right now

Our hubris created all of your gods
Making us the prophets of end

You and me
Clawing desperately
For anything to let
The light through the walls
You can’t hear the call anymore

Love is merciless and bloody

We’ll be waiting in your dark
