about

In the dynamic landscape of contemporary music, Seattle-based band Bear, Man Dangerous has emerged as an intriguing force that fearlessly ventures into various genres. --Thoughts Words Actions

Infusing the unapologetic intensity of The Jesus Lizard with the grand, cinematic ambience of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Bear, Man Dangerous’s “American War” emerges as an incendiary exploration of modern societal dissonance. B-Side Guys

From Seattle, Washington comes the mysterious Bear, Man Dangerous project. American War is the new shoegaze, post punk single that slowly, like leaves falling down, spirals towards a doom future. Which seems entirely fitting giving the subject matter at hand. The noisy, messy, clouded composition eventually burning away and falling down like Icarus…. --Stoner Hive

American War is a bleak and dystopian tale which is offset by superb sounding and highly melodic based Post-Rock driven Psych Stoner Rock grooves with Bear, Man Dangerous not afraid to show subtle hints of Melodic Pop but with a fresh Doomed Out twist. --Outlaws of the Sun

This language is a paradox
Lacking in computation skills
We see the sweat coming off your brow
Watching bodies mount in this crowd

You know just all too well
The lure of the gray-blue light
You work us in a frenzy
We want our pound of flesh tonight

You're not who you think you are
You're not holy nor Roman, man
I fear our friends have been sewed in
We'll be looking for the fire tonight

Florida man's burning all these books
He wants to make sure the people see
They've got to fight until they know
A neighbor looks like he said they should, for us

No matter how far you run, it's never enough

Slowly inuring
The transmigration, of a self
You desperately, need to be
But can't quite, set free

Everybody's fighting American War

The saddest sincerity
Bleeds from your gaping wounds
You search the sky for signs of life
But can't quite, get this joke

Everybody's fighting American war

The truth that we ignore
Is Icarus, didn't burn
Then tell me what, did we learn
We are Icarus
We are Icarus
Icarus killed us all
Icarus killed us all

Icarus

Here we are, two peas in pod

Buried to our necks

Scanning the horizon, for all we fear

Pining for enemies to crush us

This song was inspired by the Omar El Akkad novel of the same name. In this space I imagine how the actions of today (e.g. Book bans, stochastic terrorism, tribalism, income inequality and a transcontinental malaise metastasizing in America's collective imagination) may be bringing us closer to the world Akkad created for Sarat and Dana Chestnut.

“It seemed sensible to crave safety, to crave shelter from the bombs and the Birds and the daily depravity of war. But somewhere deep in her mind an idea had begun to fester-perhaps the longing for safety was itself just another kind of violence-a violence of cowardice, silence, submission. What was safety, anyway, but the sound of a bomb falling on someone else's home?” --American War by Omar El Akkad
